Prep first, tile second, and no shortcuts in between
We are a Dearborn tile crew. We set the tile ourselves, we answer our own phone, and we live close enough to stop by and look at your bathroom before anybody writes a scope for it.
Prep first, tile second, and no shortcuts in between
We are a tile crew based right here in Wayne County, and Dearborn is home turf. That matters more than it sounds. We know the housing stock street by street, from the brick bungalows in the east end to the bigger colonials west of Telegraph and the postwar ranches out toward Allen Park. We know which eras hide a mud bed floor and which ones hide a subfloor too thin for a wide tile. When you describe your bathroom on the phone, we can usually picture the room before we ever see it, which means the conversation starts at a useful place instead of at square one.
The first visit is a look, not a sales pitch. We measure the room, check the floor for movement, put a level on the walls, and pull a piece of loose tile if you will let us, because what is behind it decides the whole plan. We ask how the room gets used. A shower two adults share on a work morning is a different problem from a guest bath that runs twice a month. Then we write a scope that says what we will do, in what order, and what we will not touch. You get that in writing before anyone talks about a start date, and you can sit with it as long as you need to.
Our method is boring on purpose. Demo, inspect, repair, flatten, waterproof, test, then set tile. We do not compress that list to hit a date. If the pan needs to dry, it dries. If the leveler needs overnight, it gets overnight. Setting tile is the fast and satisfying part, and it is also the part that hides everything underneath it, which is exactly why we refuse to rush what comes first. Homeowners sometimes ask if we can skip the membrane because the old shower went thirty years without one. Some of them did. The ones that did not are the reason we get called.
We keep the crew small and steady. The people who start your job are the people who finish it, so nobody has to be told twice where the dust barrier goes or which door to use. We work normal hours, we tell you the day before if we are running early or late, and we do not leave a wet saw running in your driveway at seven in the morning. Tools get stacked in one spot at the end of the day. The path from the work area to the truck gets covered and swept. You should be able to live in the rest of the house while we are in one room of it.
On materials, we talk options and tradeoffs rather than pushing one product. Porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, glass mosaic, and the newer thin sheet goods all behave differently underfoot and under a trowel. Some are wonderful in a backsplash and wrong on a mudroom floor. Some look incredible in a showroom and show every water spot in a real bathroom. We will tell you which ones are hard to install and why that shows up in labor, and we will tell you when the cheaper choice is honestly the better one. You buy the tile or we pick it up, whichever you prefer, and either way you know what is going on your walls.
What you actually get when you hire us
You get straight answers, including the ones you did not want. If your budget and your tile choice do not meet, we say it in the first conversation instead of finding out halfway through demo. If a room needs plumbing moved and that turns a two week job into a longer one, you hear it early. Nobody enjoys that conversation, but every homeowner we have ever had it with was glad it happened at the start. The alternative is a stalled bathroom and an awkward phone call, and we have no interest in running a job that way.
You get a schedule that means something. We do not book five jobs and float between them, leaving each one half done while we chase the next deposit. When we start your bathroom, our crew is in your bathroom until it is finished. If a material lands late or a plumber cannot come until Thursday, you hear about it that day, not when you notice nobody showed up. Dearborn is small enough that a reputation travels down a block fast. We would rather turn down a week of work than earn the wrong kind of word of mouth on Warren Avenue.
You get the details other crews leave out. The niche in the shower gets sloped so water drains instead of pooling on your shampoo. The tile inside it lines up with the field around it. The edge of a backsplash gets a finished profile rather than a raw cut. Grout lines meet at a corner instead of missing by an eighth of an inch. Silicone goes in every change of plane, color matched, tooled clean. None of that costs a lot of extra time. It is just the difference between someone who sets tile and someone who cares how it looks in your kitchen.
You get a clean handoff. Before we call the job done we walk it with you, in daylight, and you point at anything that bothers you. We fix it then. We explain when the shower can be used, when the floor can take furniture, when the grout can be sealed, and how to clean it without wrecking it. Then we clear out. No trailer parked at your curb for a week after the fact, no bucket of leftover thinset in the garage, no half full box of tile you have to figure out what to do with unless you ask to keep it for repairs.
And you get somebody who is still here next year. We are not passing through on a seasonal run. Our trucks are in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Allen Park, and Lincoln Park most weeks, and the people who hired us for a backsplash in the spring are often the people calling about a shower in the fall. That is how this business is supposed to work. Do the job right, pick up the phone when it rings again, and let the finished rooms do the talking for you around the neighborhood.
